Sitemap
- A file, usually called sitemap.xml, that lists the pages of a website so that search engines can find and check them.
- It does not make pages rank, but it helps search engines discover new and changed pages quickly, which is useful for large or new sites. You submit it once in Google Search Console, and it should list only pages you want found, not thank-you pages or duplicates. Some sites also have a sitemap page for visitors, which is a different thing.
Example After the new product pages were added to the sitemap, they began to appear in search within days.
