Abandoned basket

noun

Topic: Selling online

  1. A shopping basket that a visitor filled with products and then left without completing the purchase.
  2. It is the most common leak in any online shop, and most baskets end this way; studies commonly put the figure at around seven in ten. People leave for ordinary reasons: unexpected delivery costs, a forced account sign-up, a slow checkout, or simply being interrupted. Fixing the checkout usually recovers more sales than reminder emails, though a well-timed email helps too.

Example Most of the abandoned baskets turned out to belong to people who had just spotted the delivery charge.
