Topic: Payments and security

  1. An extra security check on an online card payment, where the customer’s own bank confirms that it really is them, usually through a banking app, a text message code or a fingerprint.
  2. For a shop owner it mostly happens out of sight. Your payment gateway triggers the check when the card issuer or the rules require it, and in the UK and Europe most online card payments now need it under strong customer authentication. It cuts fraud and can move responsibility for some chargebacks away from you, though it can also lose a customer who gives up halfway through.

Example The customer entered their card details, then approved the payment in their banking app.
